Methodology & sources

Definitions

• Medal totals count official results that carry a medal, in events whose status is Official. They are recalculated from results every time — there is no hand-entered total anywhere.
• Team events produce a single result. A team gold is one gold for the country. Each team member's personal tally also shows that medal.
• Medal-table rank orders by gold, then silver, then bronze (OCA convention). Countries tied on all three share a rank.
• Athletes means unique athletes with at least one event entry, directly or as a team member. It is not the size of the official delegation, which includes officials and reserves.
• Sports entered means distinct sports in which a country has at least one entry.
• Gender / category comes from the event category (Men, Women, Mixed, Open) or the athlete's gender as published by the source. It is never inferred from names.
• Times are shown in Japan Standard Time (UTC+9).
• Coverage. Results and entries cover each event's medal rounds (the gold-medal final and bronze-medal contests), not every heat or preliminary. Medal facts come from the official medallist list. After every sync the computed medal table is reconciled against the official standings.
• Names keep the official spelling and order from the results service (family name in capitals).

Event & result states

• Scheduled — date, time and venue only; no results.
• In progress — shown only where the source says so explicitly.
• Provisional — results shown with a label and not counted in medal totals.
• Official — the primary dataset for medals and rankings.
• Postponed — kept with the updated schedule and a change note.
• Cancelled — kept, de-emphasised, with an explanation.

The organisers say schedules may change, so schedule data is stored with the time it was retrieved and updated on re-import.

Sources

Primary source: the official results service of the Games, results.asiangames2026.org, synced by our importer. Hierarchy: (1) official Aichi-Nagoya 2026 / OCA publications; (2) National Olympic Committees for supplementary athlete context; (3) reputable secondary sources only for clearly labelled enrichment.

• Aichi-Nagoya 2026 official results service (tier 1) — https://results.asiangames2026.org/
JSON service behind the official results site. Raw responses are archived per sync run.

Update cadence & lineage

Data arrives in import batches. Each batch is staged, validated row by row and only then published. Every published fact records the batch it came from, so any result on the site can be traced to a source file and retrieval time.

Corrections

When a source corrects a result, the corrected file is re-imported. Records are matched on their source key, so the existing row is updated rather than duplicated. Medal totals and country, sport and athlete pages update automatically. Where a correction changes a medal, a correction note is shown on the event page. Records are never deleted; cancelled or disqualified outcomes keep their status.

Photos & personal data

Only publicly sourced sports information is published. Every athlete photo carries its credit and licence; photos without cleared rights are not shown.
